Last night I watched the new Netflix documentary, Sky Ladder, a gorgeously produced look at the art of Cai Guo Qiang, specifically his latest work, and perhaps magnum opus. There's a lot of great moments, but the final scenes themselves are just so spellbinding and cathartic, in no small part thanks to an emotional score by Alex Heffes.
A few years ago, Weston and I were in Brisbane for a work shoot, and I managed to steal some time for us to tour the GoMA with one of their senior curators, Jose, who I knew from Tumblr (who, weirdly, at the time, and totally unbeknownst to me, had just returned to Australia after living in San Francisco, because he had been dating John. Small, small, small, weird world.) A private tour of a gallery by an expert would have been great no matter what, but the main exhibit at the time was a retrospective of Cai Guo Qiang's work, Falling Back to Earth and it was just jaw dropping.
